Harmony’s Infant Adoption Training Initiative (IATI) program provides essential adoption knowledge to nurses, social workers, and the many others who provide counseling to women, teens, and men experiencing an unintended or unexpected pregnancy on the following topics:
- Adoption law & practice
- Birth mother and father rights & responsibilities
- Special issues in counseling teens
- Social and cultural influences
- Non-directive counseling techniques
- Community resources and referral information
Since 2001, Harmony has trained over 11,000 health care and helping professionals throughout the region. The goal of the IATI program is to enhance the ability of health care and helping professionals to provide adoption information and referrals to pregnant women, teens, and men experiencing an unintended or unexpected pregnancy on an equal basis with all other courses of action.
The Infant Adoption Training Initiative (IATI) Training Program is funded by a cooperative agreement (Cooperative Agreement Number 90CG2659/01) between Harmony and the Department of Health and Human Services. Harmony is one of six grantees providing trainings for staff of eligible health centers across the nation. Harmony is the designated grantee for Region IV (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee).
